How to cancel Microsoft 365

Find the billing provider, follow its cancellation steps, and check the confirmation before you stop tracking Microsoft 365.

Official instructions checked 2026-11-04. Steps and terms can vary by plan, country and billing provider.

Cancel Microsoft 365 billed by Microsoft

This guide covers consumer Microsoft 365 subscriptions.

  1. Open Microsoft 365 subscriptions with the account used to purchase the plan.
  2. Choose Cancel subscription or Upgrade or Cancel.
  3. Review the consequences and any refund offered. Choose I don’t want my subscription and complete the prompts.
  4. Check the final status and expiry date.

If Turn on recurring billing appears, renewal is already disabled. You can keep using the subscription until its displayed expiry date.

App stores and retailers

Apple, Google Play and retailer purchases must be managed with that billing provider. Use the receipt to identify it; Microsoft cannot cancel those subscriptions for you.

Check where your Microsoft 365 subscription is managed.

Storage and family sharing

After expiry, storage allowances shrink, including for people sharing a Family plan. Being over quota can block OneDrive uploads and Outlook.com email. Check usage before cancelling and copy files you need.

Refunds

Stopping renewal does not guarantee a refund. Eligibility depends on the purchase and country; review the cancellation screen and Microsoft’s refund guidance.
